The Annenberg School of Journalism seeks a qualified adjunct instruction to teach JOUR 596 Follow the Money: Business and Economics. This graduate-level course is an intensive, reporting-based class that explores business and economic journalism. Students will be tasked with developing business story ideas, refining these ideas into cogent pitches and delivering work that is of publishable quality.
The course will also cover the following basics:
Understanding financial markets
Reading financial documents
Understanding economic data
Crafting business stories
High-level, ethical reporting
Ideal candidates will have at least 10 years of experience of expert business and economic reporting, as well as editing experience.
Preferred Experience: Minimum 10 years professional reporting and editing experience with a respected journalistic publication. In addition, university-level teaching experience is preferred. Demonstrated ability to help students achieve their academic and professional goals.
The hourly range for this position is $37.87 – $46.96. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
USC reserves the “Adjunct” appointment for faculty teaching less than full-time at USC, who are employed full-time in a primary profession or career elsewhere. Adjunct faculty typically teach only one course per year, but in exceptional cases, may teach one course per semester, if approved by the dean.
