Principal duties will include private instruction in voice performance for students in the Popular Music Performance Program at the undergraduate level.  Through individualized instruction in all contemporary music styles, the candidate will prepare students for both studio and live performance work.  Candidate will support students’ individual musical and vocal identity while supporting the development of sound vocal technical skills.

Additional related duties may be assigned, based on the needs of the department and the qualifications of the candidate.


The ideal candidate will have expertise and direct experience in school music education.  

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Music and or an emphasis in Voice Performance and knowledge in Popular Voice Performance;

  • Preferred Education: Master’s Degree in Music and or an emphasis in Voice Performance or Popular Voice Pedagogy;

  • Preferred Experience: High-level professional performance experience; the preferred candidate will have several years of demonstrated experience teaching at the collegiate or professional level; masterclasses, workshops, or clinics; scholarly research in contemporary music and or popular voice pedagogy is desirable;

  • Knowledgeable and skilled in the instruction of a variety of vocal aesthetics such as R&B, Pop and Rock from the 1950s to present day including Singer Songwriting styles of music;

  • A professional vocal coaching presence in today’s contemporary music industry will be considered.

The hiring range for this position for the teaching load described above is $50 – $60 per hour.
