Pathologist Assistant – (Los Angeles, California, United States)

The Keck School of Medicine, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is seeking a Pathologists’ Assistant to join its team.

As an active member of the surgical pathology team, the Pathologists’ Assistant will function as an active member of the anatomic pathology team and assist pathologists as necessary. Performs high complexity testing and is responsible for performing duties associated with the gross examination and prosection of tissue for histological examination for both surgical and autopsy pathology.

Acts as a key contact person for pathologists, grossing and histology staff to identify problem areas and recommend changes to workflow.  Assists in the organization and coordination of anatomic pathology conferences and serve as a preceptor for residents, fellows, and/or students.

The Keck School of Medicine Department of Pathology is one of the largest pathology departments in the United States.

The Department aims to shape the future of pathology as it will be practiced in community hospitals, academic medical centers and clinical laboratories throughout the country.

Shift: Monday – Friday 7:00 am – 3:30 pm

Hourly range:

The hourly rate range for this position is $69.03 – $84.24. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Minimum education:
Bachelors Degree
Specialized technical training
Preferred Education:
Masters Degree
Field of study: Pathology
Minimum experience: 1 year
Preferred experience: 3 years
Required License:
Licensed Pathologist Assistant
Required certification:
Degree from an accredited Pathologists’ Assistant Program
American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification
Fire and Safety Certification. If no card upon hire, one must be
obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before
expiration date
