The USC Marshall School of Business, is seeking applicants for a Program Director within the newly-launched Financial Services Career Hub. The Program Director will have oversight of co-curricular programs for students in the areas of finance career advisement and professional and leadership development; a leadership role in formulating and expanding program offerings in collaboration with the Finance and Business Economics Department; and an active outreach effort to community, corporate, and alumni partners. The Program Director will enable students, staff, and faculty to enhance our efforts and career placement opportunities in prestigious and highly sought-after financial services roles, including investment banking, investment management, public and private investing, corporate finance FP&A, rotational programs, and more.
The Financial Services Career Hub at USC’s Marshall School of Business will serve as a hub for education, industry partnerships, academia-meets-industry events, and off campus activities. The Hub aims to immerse Marshall’s highest-performing finance students in the financial services industry. The Hub enables:
- Career preparation and training sessions, skill building workshops, firm information sessions, networking events, career and educational treks and other programming to support financial services career placement.
- Collaboration and coordination between student organizations, the Finance and Business Economics department faculty and staff, the USC and Marshall Career Center, finance employers and the USC alumni community.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Provides leadership in actualizing the mission of the Financial Services Career Hub. Set goals, objectives and priorities. Develops strategy, processes and programs to achieve goals and objectives.
- Leads program office staff to manage co-curricular programs for students.
- Coordinates on-campus activities, including workshops, training programs, case competitions, company information sessions and industry speakers and panels.
- Coordinates off campus activities, including career treks.
- Collaborates with the career center and finance clubs and student organizations to oversee and participate in the advisement of students in career issues and strategies, internship search methods, resume preparation and related matters. Determines career counseling needs of individual students as well as groups of students and develop action plans accordingly.
- Oversees, manages and expands relationships with new and existing finance corporate recruiters and other company representatives to ensure USC Marshall as a premier hiring partner. Elevates USC Marshall’s finance recruitment by providing a curated experience to connect our top students with employers.
- Generates new leads/relationships with finance corporate recruiters to develop internship and full-time domestic and international job opportunities.
- Aligns projects with strategic USC, Marshall and alumni relations priorities.
- Showcases Marshall students through events, communications, and other meaningful engagements.
- Maintains relationships with a broad range of partners including faculty, alumni and a pool of volunteers that serve as advisory board members, mentors and speakers.
- Partners effectively with USC Marshall External Relations and Development colleagues to cultivate and steward major prospective and current donors.
- May teach or co-teach courses, oversee administration of courses, creates and/or advises in the development of finance curriculum, and/or coaches and mentors students.
- Strengthens connections to key stakeholders (e.g., alumni, donors, campus recruiting network).
- Leads Financial Services Career Hub Advisory Board meetings in fall and spring semesters.
- Establishes and tracks metrics that illustrate the Hub’s support and successes in student career placement.
- Oversees the use of information systems for managing records and data. Determine and adopt best practices in using data to provide personalized services, tailor offerings, and maximize program and services effectiveness.
- Oversees administrative portfolio, including program management, program budget, and program implementation.
- Manages and promotes the Finance Career Services Hub and Marshall School of Business brand and reputation.
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA or related advanced degree, preferably with a finance, or business-related emphasis.
- Program management experience, with superior communication and leadership skills, with demonstrated 10+ prior years of experience working in financial services or leading a corporate or academic program or similar.
- Extensive industry network in financial services and work experience relevant to finance, especially investment banking or investment management.
- Track record of success in launching programs or managing stakeholders within a corporate finance, university or campus recruiting context.
- Supervisory or managerial experience.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum Education: Master’s degree; Combine experience/education as substitute for minimum education
- Minimum Experience: 7 years of work experience in a corporate setting or educational institution.
- Minimum Field of Expertise: Directly related expertise in the financial services industry. Teaching experience in finance and/or subject-area knowledge of the financial services industry. Program management and fundraising experience. Proven leadership/management experience, skilled in staff development and networking. Ability to analyze and evaluate data, and present findings. Proven experience with budget development and control. Excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills, able to problem solve and lead conflict resolutions. Ability to interpret and apply policies/analyses/trends.
Anticipated Hiring Range:
The annual salary range for this position is $128,000 – $191,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
Funding Restrictions
This position is funded by a gift and may be funded by a subsequent gift. Accordingly, your position is contingent upon receipt of the necessary funding from this or any subsequent gift to continue employment. In the event funding for your position changes and it becomes necessary to adjust your percentage of effort, or it becomes necessary for your employment with the University of Southern California to end, you will receive one (1) month written notification of termination.
