Research Lab Specialist – (Los Angeles, California, United States)

The laboratory seeks a research scientist to collaborate with multiple investigators performing research on the biology and therapeutic applications of host defense peptides. 

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in biology or biochemistry, be certified for BSL-3 experimental work, and have 7 or more years of research experience is highly desired. 

The successful candidate will have experience with the following research disciplines:

Design and execution of T cell transplant models of IBD in RAG knock-out mice

Perform in vitro assays utilizing CD4+ T cells isolated from wild-type mice

Breeding and maintenance of RAG knock-out mice

Isolation of tissue RNA and performance of qRT-PCR and preparation of samples for RNAseq

Expertise in intraperitoneal injections and experience in intravenous injections of mice with experimental agents

Clinical monitoring of wild type and RAG knock-out mice

Blood collection and tissue harvesting from mice

Preparation of tissue samples for fixation and embedding and immunohistochemistry

Performance of complete blood counts from mouse samples

Preparation of blood plasma samples for multiplex cytokine assays and performance of ELISA assays

Knowledge and performance of UPLC and LC/MS/MS

Knowledge and performance of MALDI-TOF MS

Experience in performing ADME studies utilizing UPLC and LC/MS/MS

Salary Range:

The annual base salary range for this position is $68,505 – $94,988. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.“

Minimum Education: Related graduate study
Minimum Experience: 5 years
Minimum Field of Expertise: Directly related education and experience in research specialization with advanced knowledge of equipment, procedures and analysis methods and ability to supervise on a regular or project basis
Preferred Experience: 7 years
