Research Programmer, Homelessness Research

Focused on research related to understanding and solving the complex problem of homelessness, the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work, Center for Homelessness, Housing and Health Equity Research is seeking a Research Programmer to provide programming support on the Los Angeles Homeless Count and research projects that collect and use data related to homelessness. Knowledge with SAS is required. The programmer is an integral part of the count team and works closely with the principal investigator and a multidisciplinary research team. The key role of the programmer is to develop and combine data from various sources as required for a project. This includes designing, testing, and debugging complex programs, ensuring the quality of developed measures, suggesting improvements to protocols for data collection, understanding critical project paths, and collaborating with research partners. Manages data files. Utilizes creativity and innovation to solve conceptual programming problems raised by cutting-edge research.
Minimum Education:
- Master’s degree
- Combined work experience and education as equivalent
Minimum Experience:
- 1 year
- Demonstrated creativity and innovation in solving conceptual programming problems
- Competent to work independently on complex programming.
Preferred Qualifications:
- MA/MS in statistics, quantitative social science, public health, demography, or related field
- 3 or more years of experience with SAS and Stata. Experience with SQL and/or GIS preferred but not required
- Experience with administrative databases and survey data
- Demonstrated creativity and innovation in solving conceptual programming problems
- Ability to work independently on complex programming
- Experience with survey and/or administrative data
Compensation: The hourly rate range for this position is $43.53 – $56.31.
