Scope Processing Supervisor – Scope Processing – Full Time 8 Hour Days (Non-Exempt) (Non-Union) – (Los Angeles, California, United States)

The Scope Processing Supervisor coordinates the activities of Scope Processing Department personnel engaged in decontaminating, High Level Disinfecting and storing equipment utilized for the care and treatment of patients. In addition, the Supervisor will actively assist the Department Leaders in coordinating the day-to-day activities of the unit. The Scope Processing Supervisor will take the leading role in activities such as performance improvement, job performance evaluations, staffing, scheduling, and working with Department Leaders and preceptors in the orientation and training of new employees.

Essential Duties:

  • Responsible for supervising the activities of Scope processing personnel in daily activities.
  • Plans and evaluates daily assignments according to work requirements and staff capabilities.
  • Establishes and maintains performance improvement and quality control activities which support the SPD department and the hospital P&P that support JCAHO and infection control standards of care.
  • Responsible for maintaining equipment repair and loaner documentation, informing all appropriate staff members if items require repair.
  • Responsible for supervising staff in following the workflow protocol.
  • Responsible for monitoring resource utilization and reordering inventory as necessary to reduce cost and to maintain a high level of efficiency.
  • Responsible for assuring Scope Processing staff properly clean equipment such as Scopes, Probes, Scope Cabinets, AERs and check for proper function of item according to manufactures guidelines.
  • Review all new/revised policies and procedures following infection control/JCAHO recommendations related to the hospital and the SPD department.
  • Acts as a liaison between Scope Processing personnel and within the hospital.
  • Fosters collaborative and positive relations with staff, peers, physicians, and other departments.
  • Demonstrates appropriate human resource management skills under the supervision of the SPD Manager.
  • Responsible for establishing systems that monitor the support and practice that contributes to the development of customer service standards and expectations, while promoting patient, physician safety/care satisfaction.
  • Displays understanding of governing regulations, Title 22, and JCAHO requirements, defining and maintaining the standards of care while ensuring consistency with the hospital standards.
  • Ensures recommended orders are performed daily to maintain inventory levels with minimal stock-outs and meet the need of the department.
  • Able to utilize Computer.
  • Ensures that Kronos is completed and reported daily.
  • Provides for orientation, training, and continuing education of staff.
  • Fosters professional growth within department through formal and informal in-services and educational courses.
  • Supports continuous and ongoing customer satisfaction through the hospital-wide service excellence standards.
  • Manage Scope Culture Surveillance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school or equivalent
  • 3 years Endoscopic Scope Processing.
  • 4 years OR/SPD/GI environment.
  • Knowledge of Handling, Cleaning, High Leve Disinfecting and storing patient related equipment.
  • Working computer knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A graduate of a state approved, accredited school of Surgical Technology or Central Service Technician.
  • Surgical Technologist – CST Certified CST “Surgical Technician” or CRCST “Registered Central Service Technician.”

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) Current Certification as a Endoscopic Reprocess or through an accredited organization (HSPA, CBSPD)
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 90 days of hire, and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (required within LA City only)


The hourly rate range for this position is $29.00 – 45.20.
