Staff Attorney, Immigration Clinic – (Los Angeles, California, United States)

USC Gould School of Law is seeking applications for a temporary, full-time Staff Attorney.  This temporary position is scheduled to end on June 30, 2025. 

The staff attorney would be responsible for providing support for USC Student and Staff Immigrant Legal Assistance Project which provides informational sessions, free legal consultation, brief service, pro per assistance, and limited direct legal representation for certain USCIS application for USC students, staff, and close family members.  

The staff attorney would work under the supervision of the co-directors of the Immigration Clinic.  Common issues handled include naturalization applications, DACA renewals, TPS applications, crime victim visa applications, work permit renewals, and advising individuals who are undocumented, and providing advice or referrals for other immigration issues. 

Our ideal candidates have the following skills and experiences: 

  • J.D. degree;  

  • Admission to and active California Bar or other State license; 

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience practicing immigration law;  

  • ability to work independently; 

  • ability to oversee and supervise staff and/or student administrative workers; 

  • ability to interact and engage with wide range of persons, including advocacy organizations, community organizers, bar organizations, students, staff, faculty, and others; 

  • ability to start working in the temporary position by mid-December or first week of January. 

  • fluency in Spanish; 

  • experience appearing in court or administrative hearings; 

  • experience in leadership and supervision of others as a legal service provider. 

  

The annual base salary range for this position is $69,944.40 – $71,500.00. Minimum Education: J.D.
Minimum Experience: 3 years
Minimum Field of Expertise: Demonstrated experience providing legal guidance. Proven leadership ability. Practiced use of discretion and decision-making ability. Excellent written and oral communication skills and a proven ability to build and maintain deep and meaningful relationships with community members and outside agencies.
