The USC Sol Price School of Public Policy is seeking a working professional or academic with expertise to teach in the area of public policy and governance for the Price Policy Semester Program in DC, our new semester program in Washington, DC which begins in Spring 2025. The successful candidate should possess a Ph.D. or currently enrolled in a doctoral program in public policy, political science, law, or a related field; a master’s degree may be acceptable with appropriate experience.

The candidate will be able to teach the undergraduate course PPD 499: Special Topics – Advocacy in Action: Environmental Health Policymaking in DC (“Experiential learning focused on environmental health issues and policy, its main policy actors in DC, policymaking and advocacy in the environmental and health policy arenas.”) on the USC Capital Campus in Washington, DC.

Adjunct instructor responsibilities include delivery of course content, scheduling office hours and being accessible to students as appropriate, and grading. Each instructor is expected to provide students with a syllabus outlining the course goals, schedule and all requirements for the course under the direction of the Department Chair.

Course Description: The course will focus on the intersection of environmental and health policy with an emphasis on the policymaking process and actors in Washington, DC. The course will include site visits, guest speakers, course projects, lecturers, and discussions to learn about the current policy landscape regarding these issues. Students will understand the complex problems, impacts, and factors shaping this policy area regarding equity, economics, and politics. The course will expound on the process of assessing and building political will while sharpening students’ policy communication skills advocating for change and impact.

The hourly rate range for this position is $29.06/hr. – $38.89/hr.
