Position Overview:

We are excited to offer a unique opportunity for a Patient Services Specialist (PSS) to join our team. This position is initially offered on a fixed-term basis, with the potential to transition to a permanent role based on your performance and the clinic’s needs. Key Responsibilities:

  • Be the friendly face that greets and checks in patients at our front desk
  • Navigate the complexities of medical authorizations with ease
  • Assist patients with insurance and billing inquiries, ensuring a smooth experience
  • Master the art of scheduling patient appointments and managing our clinic’s calendar
  • Maintain accurate patient records with precision and attention to detail
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to patients and their families
  • Collaborate with medical staff to ensure seamless clinic operations
  • Take on administrative tasks and support the team as needed

What We’re Looking For:

  • A High School Diploma or Associate’s Degree is a must
  • Prior experience at the front desk of a medical clinic is a big plus
  • Familiarity with medical authorizations and insurance processes
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in computer skills and data entry
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and handle sensitive information with confidentiality

The hourly rate range for this position is $22.00 – $27.00. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Minimum Field of Expertise: Experience working in a healthcare environment. Working knowledge of HIPAA compliance and insurance terminology. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal customer service and telephone skills. Demonstrated ability to multi-task. Demonstrated experience in a high volume, fast paced environment. Demonstrated team-oriented and collaborative work style.
